Turkish Airlines will be operating direct flights between Istanbul and Male this January 2021. This daily operation will be carried out till January 17.

The airline had previously resumed passenger flights to the destination in late July 2020, after borders reopened with the implementation of vigorous measures to curb COIVID-19 virus. During the time, two flights were operated on a weekly basis between Istanbul and Male.

Maldives reopened its borders to international tourists on 15th July with the reopening of several resorts and liveaboards. Guesthouses also resumed operations on 15th October. There is no quarantine on arrival but all tourists are required to fill an online health declaration form within 24 hours prior to departure and submit a negative COVID-19 PCR test result, conducted maximum 96 hours prior to departure to Maldives.

Maldives has also introduced the first COVID-19 travel insurance in the country, Allied Inbound, which covers medical charges, isolation facility charges, emergency medical transportation charges and interment charges following a positive diagnosis for COVID-19 during their stay in the country.
