Various events have been planned for the upcoming World Tourism day in the Maldives by Ministry of Tourism.

Numerous successful brands and businesses in the tourism industry such as Crown and Champa Company, Villa Groups, Universal and several other resorts will be sponsoring the world tourism day activities. The sponsorship was handed over during the conference held on Thursday regarding the events.

Seven main activities will be carried out, informed the Tourism Minister, Ali Waheed. On 26^th September, the celebrations will start with a canoe race in which male and female participants are separated in teams. The canoe race will be from Vaavu Keyodhoo to Vaavu Fulidhoo for the women team while the men team will be racing from Vaavu Fulidhoo to Vaavu Thinadhoo. The event will be concluded with a dinner night at Keyodhoo, showcase of fireworks and some traditional activities.

In order to break the world record for Most people free diving simultaneously, an attempt will be made by the Maldives to free dive simultaneously with 500 divers. Presently, Veronica, Italy holds the record with 280 people since 2009. William Trubridge, World Free-Diving Champion will be participating in the event held at Baros Lagoon on 27^th September.

On 27^th to 28^th September, a tourism job fair will be held at Male City under the motto of "Tourism and Jobs: a better future for all" targeted at youngsters providing necessary information about the vast opportunities in the tourism industry.

The foundation for the tourism visitor center at R. Angolhitheem will be laid on October 1^st in addition to a display of fireworks at MaleCity. The visitor center will help to promote traditional locations and guesthouse tourism in the Maldives.

Local students will be provided with the chance to visit and discover the services of Ministry of Tourism in addition to clarifying any doubts on the Tourism Open Day, October 2.

A Kids Football Fiesta with the participation of Male, Hulhumale and Villimale will be organized on 3^rd October in association with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Football Association of Maldives and Ministry of Education. Best player of the tournament will be granted the chance to train with the under 13 national team squad of Spanish Soccer School playing for the Intercontinental Cup which will be held in Dubai next year. Míchel Salgado, the former real Madrid captain of Spain will be taking part in the event to choose the best player.

On the last day of celebrations, a conference will be held to discuss the improvements needed to be made on specific parts of the industry including, security, job opportunities in addition to launching a platform for the local artists in the tourism industry. The night will end with the Official Gala Night dinner held at Paradise Island Resort & Spa.
