The Maldives is once again in contention for 9 prestigious World Travel Awards (WTA) in the Indian Ocean’s category. To garner public support and showcase the unparalleled beauty of the Maldives, the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) is hosting a special Voting Event at Velaanaage ground floor on 28th March 2024, from 9:15 AM to 1:15 PM.

The World Travel Awards, established in 1993, are recognized as the highest accolade in the travel and tourism industry. Their annual awards program celebrates excellence across various sectors, with regional ceremonies culminating in a Grand Final. Winning a WTA signifies global recognition and sets a benchmark for hospitality standards.

Throughout the years, the Maldives has consistently impressed voters and travel experts alike, having previously secured many of the most coveted Indian Ocean’s category titles such as Leading Destination, Leading Beach Destination, and Leading Tourist Board for many years prior. The aim is to reclaim the Maldives' position at the forefront of Indian Ocean tourism again this year. This also comes on the heels of the Maldives being declared WTA’s World’s Leading Destination for the past four years in a row, and MMPRC claiming the title of World’s Leading Tourist Board for two consecutive years.
