Kuramathi Maldives has appointed Tom Osborne as its new Sustainability Manager. In this role, Osborne will spearhead the resort’s environmental initiatives, including ensuring compliance with Travelife standards, optimizing energy use, and managing significant projects such as a coral restoration program and the development of a new facility for the Maldives Coral Institute. His efforts will be crucial in improving the resort’s overall environmental impact.

Osborne’s deep connection to nature, developed during his upbringing in Cornwall, inspired his career in marine biology. He holds a BSc and MRes in Marine Biology from Swansea University, where his research focused on juvenile green turtles. His extensive experience includes roles with prominent organizations in Costa Rica, Saudi Arabia, and Kenya, which have equipped him with valuable insights into marine conservation.

Since beginning his role at Kuramathi four months ago, Osborne has implemented several key sustainability initiatives, such as reducing food waste among staff and minimizing single-use plastics by introducing reusable bottles. His commitment to staying informed on the latest trends and practices in sustainability underscores his dedication to these efforts.

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Osborne enjoys diving and surfing, reflecting his lifelong passion for the ocean. Guided by the principle, “We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children,” he is determined to make a lasting positive impact on both the resort and the broader environment.
