Certificates were awarded to the first batch of Area Control Procedural (ICAO 055) Course conducted locally at Velana International Airport. The 8 weeks course was done for 8 Air Traffic Services staff at the ATS simulator class room.

The Maldives Civil Aviation Authority (MCAA) approved ICAO training was facilitated by a foreign instructor as the Lead Instructor along with three local (senior ATCOs) instructors. This is a proud and a defining moment for the air traffic control community in the Maldives. In the past, a course of this magnitude can only be conducted abroad which costs between USD 11000 to USD 14000 but now after domestic training is being introduced per head cost is around USD 500 and this is a huge achievement to the company.

The aim of this course is to meet an urgent operational requirement due to lack of enough Area-rated controllers at Maldives Air Traffic Control Centre (MATCC). Chief Executive of MCAA Mr. Hussain Jaleel gave out the certificates in a special ceremony held at Hulhule Island Hotel.
