Kuredu Island Resort Maldives, renowned for its commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation, joined millions around the world in celebrating Earth Hour on Saturday, March 23. The resort took various initiatives to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote eco-friendly practices.
Earth Hour, an annual global event, encourages communities to switch off non-essential lights for one hour as a symbolic gesture of solidarity towards the planet. However, Kuredu Resort embraced the spirit of Earth Hour beyond mere energy conservation, striving to make a lasting impact on the environment.
With its prime location just north of the Equator, Kuredu is uniquely positioned to harness solar energy. The resort has taken advantage of this by installing 4160 solar panels across the rooftops of its Team Village, contributing up to 30% of its total electricity needs. This investment in renewable energy not only reduces the resort's carbon footprint but also sets an example for sustainable tourism practices.
As part of their Earth Hour activities, Kuredu organized a reef and island cleanup in collaboration with the team from Prodivers. Guests were invited to participate, emphasizing the resort's commitment to preserving the marine ecosystem surrounding the island. The cleanup provided an opportunity for guests to actively engage in conservation efforts while experiencing the natural wonders of the Maldives.
In the evening, Kuredu hosted a special dining event - the Earth Hour Full Moon Beach BBQ at the main beach. Guests enjoyed delectable cuisine under the stars, appreciating the beauty of the natural environment while supporting sustainable dining practices.
Following the beach BBQ, guests were invited to Babuna Bar to watch an Earth Hour documentary, further educating and inspiring them to take action for the planet. The evening culminated in a poignant candle ceremony on the beach, symbolizing solidarity in the global fight against climate change.
