Charter Airlines to Maldives Doubled this Year

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has revealed that the number of charter airlines operated to the Maldives have doubled this year compared to pre-COVID figures.  

According to the company, the island nation currently accommodates 8 charter airlines and in the near future, will welcome new charters including Nordwind and Klasjet. This will count for a “positive impact on tourism across the nation,” said MACL. 

Maldives has currently welcomed a total of 1,261,933 tourist arrivals as of December 20, 2021. On a daily basis, an average of 2,834 tourists are being welcomed in the month of December 2021.  

India remains top market to Maldives with the highest number of tourists to the country and a market share of 22% with Russia in second place with a market share of 16.9%. The remaining countries in the top 10 include Germany, United Kingdom, USA, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Ukraine, France and Switzerland, respectively.
