The national flag carrier of India, Air India has announced to resume passenger flight operation between Mumbai and Malé, starting July 28, 2021.

According to the airline, the weekly service will be operated on every Wednesday and Saturday. Air India currently operates direct flights from three regions of India to Maldives: Trivandrum, Bangalore and Delhi.

On July 15, 2021, Maldives once again opened borders for South Asian travelers, following the drop in COVID-19 cases in Capital Malé and most islands. Air India also resumed flight operations between India and Maldives as travel restrictions eased.

Tourists traveling from South Asian countries are not permitted to check-in or stay at tourist facilities in inhabited islands until 30th July 2021 to maintain a gradual and safe reopening for the region.

All travelers, including those who have completed the prescribed dose(s) of COVID-19 vaccines, must hold a negative PCR test result, with a sample taken within 96 hours prior to departure to the Maldives from the first port of embarkation en-route to the Maldives. Children below one year old are exempt from the requirement of the PCR test.
