Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) has announced the lease of lounge spaces at the newly developed sea plane terminal building at Velana International Airport (VIA) for those interested.

According to the airports company, the winning parties in the bid are required to setup and operate executive lounges on their own in accordance with MACL guidelines and instructions.

The new seaplane project is divided into two components which is the Seaplane Terminal and the Seaplane Maintenance facility or MRO. For this project over 35,000 sqm of land was reclaimed and over 720 meters of sheet piling was done at the eastern lagoon of Velana International airport.

MACL stated that the new sea plane terminal area can accommodate more than 85 seaplanes on docks which is 50% more than the existing docks. The 4-story modern sea plane terminal comes new facilities such as VVIP and dedicated arrival lobbies. Also, the 28,000 sqm of floor space can accommodate spacious lounges, extra boarding gates and can provide a host of office spaces. The sea plane terminal is designed to international standards with full NFPA fire compliances.

The highly-anticipated sea plane terminal will be ready for use in the 4th quarter of this year.
