Taj Exotica Resort & Spa celebrates its spectacular location in one of the largest natural lagoons in the Maldives, with the conclusion of a bouquet of activities scheduled from 25th May to 05th June 2022.

The initiative was synchronised with its parent company IHCL’s ‘Paathya’ framework, launched in March 2022. Driving sustainability and social impact measures across geographies, Paathya (a Sanskrit word for path) focuses on Environmental Stewardship, Social Responsibility, Excellence in Governance, Preserving Heritage, Value Chain Transformation and Sustainable Growth.

Community activities at the resort included poster-making, sand art and photography and video teaser competitions themed around ‘Only One Earth’.

As part of the celebrations, all department staff participated enthusiastically in three ‘clean and green’ initiatives:

- Hulhumale park cleaning drive

- Lagoon cleaning

- My green corner (individual vegetable/flower garden planted and nurtured by staff)

“While we conduct plantation drives each year, our holistic endeavour this time is aligned with our unified approach under ‘Paathya’ – which aims to plant more than a hundred thousand saplings across all IHCL hotels – as a collective step towards a better tomorrow,” says Samrat Datta, General Manager.

A significant focus of the 10-day celebrations was the resort’s unwavering commitment to protecting and preserving its exquisite coral reef, one of the most valuable ecosystems on earth. The 2014 ‘Adopt a Coral Line’ program continues to invite guests to restore the beauty of the ocean by assisting marine experts in planting broken coral fragments in the Coral line nursery. The program aims to involve guests in the resort’s ambitious and collaborative Coral Reef Rehabilitation and Protection, launched in 2004. With the capable instructors at OCEAN – a PADI 5 Star Diving and Water Sports Centre passionately involved in conservation – Taj has fostered intensive studies on the delicate equilibrium of the Maldivian ecosystem, which is crucial to monitoring biodiversity resources on the archipelago.

While nurturing the archipelago is not a one-day job, on World Environment Day - Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Maldives pledges to persevere in protecting and giving back to the incredible land and ocean it inhabits.
