Another floating islands project has been signed with Dutch Docklands

The company from Netherlands known as Dutch Docklands has signed an agreement to for another floating islands project in the Maldives.


In Mohamed Nasheed's presidency during 2010, an agreement for the same project was signed. That time, in order to incorporate floating island technology, five islands within the Malé atoll were to be given to a company, for 50 years, where both the Maldivian government and Dutch Docklands held shares. The economic minister at the time Mohamed Rasheed, sighed on behalf of the Maldives.


After not knowing what was happening with the project, a UK media in the year 2015 announced that the project between the company and Maldives would start on the 17th of August. But no statement was issued by the Maldivian government.


The project was signed for on the 2nd of May 2019 at a special ceremony held at the Tourism Ministry. The tourism ministry's state minister Dr. Ahmed Solih signed on behalf of the Maldives.


Any other details about the Dutch Docklands project has yet to be revealed by the Tourism Ministry.
