Hotel Asia Exhibition and International Culinary Challenge is known as the event for the hospitality sector in the Maldives. The Culinary Challenge of this year (19 to 22 October 2025) features contests in more than 20 categories, primarily hosted at the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies, Maldives National University, with additional events at the Synthetic Track, Hulhumalé.

A Lasting Founding Partnership

Since its inaugural edition in 2001, Bestbuy Maldives (BBM) has been instrumental in developing the International Culinary Challenge into the Maldives' premier culinary event. The event has evolved into a key element for professional growth, uniting chefs from all over the Maldives to compete, learn, and display their skills.

BBM and its affiliated Principals back a significant majority of categories. “Since the start, our aim has been to provide chances for Maldivian chefs to reach international standards.” "This collaboration has developed alongside the industry," stated A.V.S. Subrahmanyam, COO of BBM.

Cultivating Local Talent

The involvement of BBM goes further than just sponsorship. The organization has established a sustainable framework for identifying and nurturing regional cooking skills.

  • BBM Chairman’s Award for the Top Maldivian Contestant.

  • Most Promising Young Chef Award for new talent.

  • International events sponsorship for Maldivian chefs' global exposure programs.

  • Free Masterclasses featuring internationally acclaimed chefs to promote education and creativity.

Putting Money into the Future of Hospitality

With programs like Building Young Talent, BBM persists in guiding emerging professionals and aiding the upcoming generation of chefs. The company further fosters inclusivity by funding chances for young and female chefs to receive international exposure.

BBM's collaborations in the industry feature its position as Title Sponsor of the Hotelier Maldives Awards, honoring outstanding achievements within the Maldivian hospitality industry.
