British High Commissioner to the Maldives H.E. Caron Rohsler, paid a courtesy call on Minister of Tourism Dr Abdulla Mausoom at the Ministry of Tourism yesterday.

During the meeting, Tourism Minister Dr Mausoom and High Commissioner Caron Rohsler discussed the development of sustainable tourism initiatives and establishments in the Maldives as well as strategies to promote the country to further increase the number of international visitors from the United Kingdom (UK).

Maldives lifted international travel restrictions on July 15, 2020. Since then, 9,329 tourist arrivals have been recorded by Maldives Immigration till the end of August. Minister of Tourism together with the local health agency, HPA announced the mandatory submission of a negative PCR test upon arrival to the Maldives. The decision was made to strengthen the safety measures despite the very lenient guidelines enforced for the border reopening.
