91% of Resort Employees Fully-Vaccinated from the Maldives Tourism Sector

91% of employees from the Maldives tourism sector has received the first and second dose of COVID-19 vaccination. 

According to the latest vaccination updates publicized by the Ministry of Tourism, 278,469 individuals have been recorded to be fully-vaccinated in the Maldives as of August 4, 2021. Moreover, 326,3339 people have received the first dose of vaccination and is currently waiting for their second shot.    

The administration of the COVID-19 vaccine was initiated on February 1, 2021 with the government of Maldives set to provide free COVID-19 vaccines to all citizens and residents of the country. 

To further promote vaccination and share a positive message amongst hospitality workers, Visit Maldives together with the Ministry of Tourism launched "I'm Vaccinated" campaign. With this campaign, initiatives undertaken to ensure the Maldives remains one of the safest destinations in the world for travelers is also promoted and aims to make Maldives the destination with the first fully vaccinated tourism sector in the world. 

Maldives has welcomed a total of 630,943 tourists from January 1, 2021 to August 4, 2021. Russia remains top source market to Maldives with 145,293 arrivals while India follows behind with 108,959 tourist arrivals. Other top source markets include Germany, USA, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, United Kingdom, Spain and France.

The Government of Maldives recently announced tourist arrivals to Maldives by the end of 2021 is estimated to be 1.3 million, opposed to its initial number of 1.5 million visitors.
