MACL Reports Highest Number of Tourist Arrivals on September 20 Since Border Reopening

Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL) has disclosed that the highest number of arrivals to the Maldives per a single day has been recorded on Sunday (September 20, 2020), since the country’s borders reopening on July 15. Maldives’ main Velana International Airport welcomed a total of 867 passengers on September 20.  

According to the statistics revealed by MACL, 859 passengers arrived via international flights while the remaining 8 arrived onboard ad-hoc flights. During the first two months of since borders reopened, Maldives Immigration has reported that a total of 13,516 guests arrived in Maldives. 

As the number of guests visiting this idyllic island destination have been gradually increasing with the various efforts of the tourism industry related organizations and authorities, Maldives has made it mandatory for all tourists and short-term visitors to present a negative COVID-19 test on arrival to the country. 

With the changing situation in several markets, MMPRC has been participating in and conducting several marketing campaigns on online and digital platforms such as destination training activities targeted to key markets and travel trade and gearing up for more global campaigns to promote Maldives.  

Maldives has most recently achieved the Safe Travels Stamp, which is endorsed by the World Tourism Organization and more than 200 travel companies. The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) recognized the effort’s of Maldives in implementing enhanced health and safety measures, in line with the WTTC global Safe Travels protocols, and creating a safe, gradual plan by rebuilding confidence among travellers and ensuring a coordinated approach in restarting our Tourism industry.
