Subgrade Works of Faresmaathodaa Airport Runway Completed, Reports MTCC

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has revealed that subgrade works of Faresmaathodaa Airport runway and turning pad has been completed after 6 months since the project was handed to MTCC.  

Originally initiated under the administration of former president Abdulla Yameen, reclamation works of Faresmaathodaa Airport was announced in 2018 with the appointment of Gulf Cobla Tennssor Maldives for the task.  

According to the construction company, the scope of the project includes, construction of a 1200m runway, taxiway, apron and service roads with all operational facilities. The project worth MVR144.8 million (USD9.4 million) is expected to complete works by the end of 2021. 

Maldives’ Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure awarded the construction contract to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) in November 2020 for the development of Faresmaathodaa Airport.
