Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives offers much more than a peaceful island getaway. At the heart of its lush grounds is an innovative project aimed at promoting sustainability and enhancing dining experiences: the resort’s very own organic farm. This initiative reflects the resort’s commitment to eco-conscious living.

The organic farm’s journey began in August 2024, shortly after Marlon Robert, the resort’s General Manager, arrived. With a clear vision to supply fresh, healthy produce for guests and staff while also supporting environmentally-friendly practices, the project was brought to life. Today, guests at Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives can enjoy a variety of dishes made with ingredients like spinach, basil, watermelons, and pumpkins, all grown just a few steps from the resort’s kitchen.

Marlon Robert, General Manager of the resort, commented on the progress of the farm: “This initiative is only the beginning. Organic farming is a long-term endeavor, and to fully realize its potential and benefits, we must allow time for growth. The progress we've made so far is promising, and we look forward to even greater results in the coming year.”

Building such a thriving farm has come with its challenges, particularly in the island’s unique environment. To ensure the farm flourishes, the resort’s team employs sustainable farming techniques. These include composting organic waste from the resort to enrich the soil, using natural methods for pest control to keep produce chemical-free, and rotating crops to preserve soil fertility.

Guests are encouraged to discover the farm during guided tours, where they can learn about organic farming methods and the resort’s sustainability efforts. Additionally, plans are in place to introduce culinary demonstrations showcasing ingredients freshly harvested from the farm. These immersive activities aim to educate visitors and deepen their connection to the land and the resort’s eco-conscious philosophy.

This organic farm at Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives is the second such initiative by Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts in the Maldives, following the success of the first farm at Ellaidhoo Maldives by Cinnamon. Through hands-on workshops in the garden, Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts is not only growing fruits and vegetables but also fostering a vision for a more sustainable future.
