Maldives Surpasses 600,000th Tourist Arrival Mark

According to the latest statistics published by the Ministry of Tourism, Maldives has reached a total of 600,252 tourist arrivals from January 1, 2021 till July 28, 2021.  

With an increased daily average of 3,204 tourist arrivals recorded from 1st to 28th July 2021, total tourist number for the month reached 89,703.  

The top source market to Maldives was Russia with 140,824 arrivals, followed by India with 99,643 tourist arrivals. Germany stood third with 33,361 tourist arrivals. Other top source markets include Ukraine, USA, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, United Kingdom, Spain and Romania. 

As the Maldives recovers from the COVID-19 situation, tourist arrivals to the Maldives gradually pickes up and bounce back. On July 16, 2021, a total of 555,006 tourists arrivals reached and exceeded the 2020 annual total of 555,494. By 28 July the total arrivals to the Maldives exceeded 600,000 with an increase of 56.2% compared with that of 2020. Arrivals is gaining momentum in July as COVID-19 restrictions eased and borders reopened for South Asian markets.  

As of July 28, 80% of all resort employees have been fully-vaccinated while 97% of them have completed the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination. Ministry of Tourism along with Visit Maldives has set the target of making Maldives the first destination with the 100% vaccinated tourism sector in the world.
