To celebrate World Oceans Day, Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives in association with Parley for the Ocean (Maldives) facilitated a special reef cleaning scuba dive, bringing together certified scuba diving guests with Kandooma’s own qualified scuba divers.

The enthusiastic guests and the Kandooma team spent the afternoon cleaning the reef at the back of Kandooma island removing 3 Kg of rubbish including metals, plastic and fishing lines. On their return to the Kandooma Dive Centre, the group enjoyed refreshing drinks as they exchanged conversations about the activity. This collective effort not only contributed to the sustainability of our precious underwater ecosystem but also raised awareness about the importance of protecting our oceans and reefs.

General Manager of Holiday Inn Resort, Mark Eletr said, “Being a keen scuba diver myself, I am aware of the challenges our marine life is facing and it is important to create awareness through initiatives such as our World Oceans Day Reef Dive. It is fantastic to see the guest turnout and support, and I’m very proud of the team at Kandooma who get behind any opportunity to go the extra mile,”

“IHG’s Journey for Tomorrow is our overarching guiding light of what we want to achieve as a group by 2030 with a series of ambitious commitments to drive change. Responsible tourism relies on individual properties like Kandooma also flying the flag and doing what they can for their local communities, people and the planet.” he added.

One of the participating guest Ms. Selena Nguyen shared her experience: "It was a rewarding and an eye-opening experience. I feel fortunate to be a part of such a meaningful activity on World Oceans Day."
