Velana International Airport (VIA) has set a new record in air traffic movement to the Maldives on January 2, 2022.

On Monday, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) announced via Twitter that there were 233 runway movements and 593 seaplane movements recorded on January 2. Therefore, a record-breaking number of 826 movements were seen at VIA on the day.

The record was previously held for a total of 811 aircraft movements, achieved on January 5, 2020.

Maldives has set 2 million as the current target arrivals for the year 2022. The Tourism Ministry remains hopeful in securing newly set goals as the industry continues to overcome the challenges with support from all those related to the sector despite the unprecedented circumstances of COVID-19.
