The Indian Carrier IndiGo has announced to resume operation of direct flights from Mumbai to Maldives starting October 15, 2020.

The airline has scheduled two weekly flights between the destinations on Thursdays and Sundays, which is expected to increase depending on customer demand. According to IndiGo, the flights will depart from Mumbai and arrive at the Maldives at 10.20 IST to 13.10 IST, respectively. The return flights from the Maldives to Mumbai are to depart at 14.20 IST and arrive at 18.10 IST.

In August 2020, India commenced the Air Bubble initiative which is a first within this region to boost tourism and has enabled a regular path with weekly flights between the two countries. During September, Indigo initially begin weekly flights from Kochi to Male with more to be confirmed in the future. The increase of weekly flights will aid in the much-anticipated increase in tourist arrivals from the Indian market.

Tourists arriving in the Maldives are to present a mandatory negative PCR test, along with a completed Traveler Health Declaration Form, submitted online via IMUGA (www.imuga.immigration.gov.mv) before arrival in the country. Ministry of Tourism recently enforced the submission of a negative PCR test acquired within the duration of 96 hours. Tests exceeding this time period are invalid and must be retaken.
