International Chefs Day is just around the corner. The day, to recognize the art, skill, and service of culinary professionals, is celebrated on 20th of October of every year. This year, the theme "Growing Greater Chefs," introduced by the World Association of Chefs Societies (WorldChefs), aims to inspire young talents.

The Chefs Guild of Maldives celebrates International Chefs Day every year. CGM will partner with the Maldives National University’s Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies for this year’s celebrations on 19th October 2023.

However, CGM is pleased to note that celebrations of this occasion have already begun at different locations across the Maldives. Just last week, under the leadership of Executive Chef Ishaq Solih and endorsement by the Chefs Guild of Maldives, Royal Island Resort hosted a vibrant week-long celebration. The event brought together resort staff, guests, and local communities in B. Atoll for a seven-day culinary festival. Activities included meal preparations and recreational exercises.

Throughout the week, students aged 12-14 from B. Dhonfanu School, B. Maalhos School, and B. Atoll Education Center visited the resort to participate in the meticulously planned activities focusing around hospitality and kitchen operations, and healthy cooking. In addition, Royal Island Resort presented a generous donation of plants to B. Dhonfanu School.

Various departments of Royal Island Resort teamed up with the resort’s skilled kitchen staff across the entire week to create meals across different themes and concepts. Some notable highlights include the General Manager’s Sandwich Station on 9th October, and an Inter-Departmental Cooking Challenge on 13th October, focusing on vegetatian and vegan cooking.

“The activities were engaging and well-received by all, including our staff, guests, and students. We aligned with the WorldChefs theme and maintained our strong commitment to sustainability and waste reduction in food preparation. This was a highly successful event”, said Chef Ishaq Solih.
