Over 671 Tourist Facilities in Operation as Maldives Welcomes Over 235,000 Tourist Arrivals

As of March 14, 2021, The Maldives welcomed over 235,000 tourist arrivals with a total of 671 tourist accommodation establishments in operation throughout Maldives.  

The Ministry of Tourism revealed that the arrival count to the Maldives is currently at 235,758 tourist arrivals. The statistics stated that an average of 3,230 travelers arrived in the Maldives every day, with nine days recorded as the average duration of stay.  

India recently emerged as the top source market for tourism in the Maldives, contributing to 23.6% of the arrival rate. Russia holds the position as the second largest source market, contributing to 21.8% of total arrivals.  

Furthermore, there are 671 tourist accommodation establishments currently in operation with a total of 45,225 beds across the Maldives.  

Information publicized by the Ministry of Tourism indicates that out of the total 671 establishments, 376 are guesthouses with 6,864 operational beds, 148 resorts with 34,226 beds, 136 liveaboards with 2,677 beds and 11 hotels with 1,458 beds.  

The ministry also revealed that guesthouses are in operation across 55 islands and 148 resorts across Maldives.  

Maldives reopened borders to all nationalities from 15th July 2020. All visitors are granted a 30-day free on-arrival visa with a confirmed booking for a stay at any registered tourist facility in the country. While there is no mandatory quarantine or testing on arrival, tourists traveling to Maldives are required to complete an online health declaration form and provide a negative PCR test result taken at least 96 hours prior to their departure. The negative PCR test result must be attached while completing Traveler Health Declaration form, which has to be submitted online via IMUGA (www.imuga.immigration.gov.mv), by all arriving passengers before arrival (but not exceeding 24 hours before arrival time).
