Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) in association with the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and Tripadvisor will be holding a special Webinar titled, "React, Rethink, Recover: Solutions to the COVID-19 Crisis and Maldives Tourism Industry" on Monday, 27th April 2020 from 1200hrs to 1330hrs Maldives Time (GMT+5), designed exclusively for the Maldives tourism industry.

In these unprecedented times, especially for the global travel and tourism sector, COVID-19 has within the past few months shifted from an emerging story in China to the effective quarantining of several leading tourism destinations in Europe, cancellation of all travel trade shows and the closing of borders and air routes worldwide. We are facing an existential crisis to the entire travel industry and destination management organisations with mounting losses already approaching to US$2.1 trillion and a projected potential 75 Million job losses. How organisations act now is critical.

While organisations are being flooded with holding statements, informational webinars and situational updates, everyone is looking for tangible solutions and plans for how to react to, plan for and manage a situation that is evolving daily. Inaction or uninformed action now could hamper eventual recovery.

This 90-minute webinar, presented by Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) in association with the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and Tripadvisor, will be led by Damian Cook (CEO of E-Tourism Frontiers), who has managed global tourism crises including the SARS and Ebola outbreaks, and will offer practical assistance moving beyond reassurance and information into solutions outlining a prioritized plan for organisations to follow.

Discussions will revolve around the following terms:

React: How to interpret the current data and situation, and carry out risk and threat assessments for your trade, assets and markets.

Rethink: How to redistribute budgets, source emergency resources, and assess new priority post crisis markets, segments and spend during the crisis.

Recover: How to be prepared for the end or ongoing evolution of the situation to be recovery ready and more resilient to future crises.

The session will start off with opening remarks by Mr. Thoyyib Mohamed, Managing Director of MMPRC, and welcome remarks by Dr. Mario Hardy, CEO of PATA. The session will then follow with presentations by Mr. Damien Cook; CEO of E-Tourism Frontiers, Ms. Sarah Mathews; Group Head of Destination Marketing â€“ APAC, Tripadvisor, Mr. Leon Chan; Business Development Manager APAC, Tripadvisor and lastly a Q&A moderated by Mr. Paul Pruangkarn, Director Communications & External Affairs.
