Maldivian chef wins gold at 2020 Culinary Olympics

Chef Joodhee Khalid representing the local non-profit, the Chefs Guild of Maldives (CGM) has won a gold medal at the Internationale Kochkunst Ausstellung (IKA) - widely known as the Culinary Olympics, the worlds largest culinary exhibition, which was held from February 14-19 in Stuttgart exhibition halls, Germany.

Chef Abdul Rasheed also participated in the exhibition along with Joodhee Khalid, representing Maldives for the first time. The two chefs participated in the exhibition at their own expense, along with the regional team from Sri Lanka.

Whilst the Culinary Olympics is held every four years, this years event saw around 1800 participants, including 110 teams and roughly 800 individual exhibitors, from 67 countries, and attracted over 100,000 visitors from all over the globe.

CGM has announced hopes of establishing a national team of culinary arts to represent the Maldives in time for the 2024 Culinary Olympics.
