Maldives Underwater Initiative (MUI) by Six Senses has revealed that a baby Manta has been regularly visiting a beach in Laamu Gan.

This pup who cannot seem to get enough of the bay and Gan's community, was first seen in last November. Ever since, the Manta has been visiting the island regularly, mostly during sunset whilst locals enjoy the last few hours of the day at the beach.

Hearing about these encounters, the resort's team at Manta Trust went for an explore and were delighted to not only meet the curious baby manta, but also the locals of Gan who wanted to learn more. The team received the best hospitality from taxi drivers to the cafe' owners, the kids of Gan and their onlooking parents.

In addition to meeting the pup, the masses also had the chance to experience more with virtual reality. With the local's help, the team spotted the manta and measured its size. MUI expressed how incredible it is to be able to share the moment of meeting new manta rays with such a curious and invested community.

They further expressed gratitude to all the residents of Gan and Laamu atoll for supporting and assisting in their work as these sightings are invaluable to the research and conservation of these beautiful creatures.

Maldives Underwater Initiative, a Six Senses Laamu initiative, is one of the largest marine biology teams in the Maldives. Based at Six Senses Laamu, the MUI team carries out research, education and community work in a wide range of initiatives across the field.
