A record number of flights have been seen in Maldives during
this December, operating through its main Velana International Airport (VIA),
reports the local media.
MACL revealed that the VIA operated a total of 226 flights
on December 1, while its previous record of 219 flights were operated on
February 24 this year. Of the 226 flights to and from VIA, 121 were domestic
flights, 102 were international flights, and three were chartered flights.
A billion-dollar project to expand VIA with a new runway,
international terminal, seaplane terminal, fuel farm and cargo complex is
underway to expand the scope of airport services and increase capacity for
aircraft and passengers.
Maldives had recently celebrated the arrival of 1.5 millionth tourist of 2019 to the country at the VIA. it is estimated that the Maldives will reach their new set target of 2 million tourists in the year 2020.
