Malaysia Airlines has announced that it is offering more
seamless one-stop air connectivity between Kuala Lumpur and several major
cities in the United Kingdom (UK) through a codeshare arrangement with British
Airways. British Airways customers are set to gain access to even more benefits
when flying between London and Asia thanks to the new codeshare agreement. All
codeshare services will be marketed as Malaysia Airlines flights thus
simplifying ticketing to one document issued by the aircraft.
As part of the agreement, Malaysia Airlines customers will
be able to book seats on British Airways flights from London Heathrow to
Aberdeen, Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester and Newcastle beginning 2
October 2019 for travel from 9 October.
Subject to regulatory approval, Malaysia Airlines will also
be codesharing with British Airways on European points namely Barcelona,
Berlin, Copenhagen, Vienna, Brussels, Geneva, Hamburg, Lyon, Toulouse, Paris
and Zurich. Other connections on British Airways and Malaysia Airlines network
will be enabled progressively in 2019/2020.
Malaysia Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer, Captain
Izham Ismail said, "This codeshare will provide an excellent
opportunity to expand our UK and European network without having to mount our
own flights to the various cities there. This is part of our strategy to
develop commercial cooperation with oneworld alliance members, besides
enhancing air connectivity with key priority markets overseas for increased
tourist arrivals into Malaysia. Malaysia Airlines already offers great
connectivity between Malaysia and the UK with twice daily direct flights from
London to Kuala Lumpur and Im certain that passengers will benefit from the
increase of destination choices resulting from Malaysia Airlines expanded
partnership with British Airways."
British Airways passengers will be able to book Malaysia
Airlines flights to 14 destinations the airline serves in Malaysia, including
Langkawi, Penang and Bintulu, and nine cities in Australia, Cambodia,
Indonesia, New Zealand and Vietnam.
Neil Chernoff, British Airways Director of Networks and Alliances, said: "This codeshare with Malaysia Airlines further strengthens the destination proposition for our customers, giving them more benefits when flying to Asia and South West Pacific. Malaysia Airlines shares our commitment to excellent customer service, and we are delighted that we can introduce more of our customers to their network."
