Kudadoo Maldives Private Island is nominated in the
hospitality architecture category at the Dezeen Awards 2019 organized by the
worlds most popular design magazine.
The first fully sustainable resort in the Maldives, Kudadoo has
15 over-water residences connected by a ring and with 44m2 pools, each with a
private butler providing the luxury of time, space and unhindered connections
to be enjoyed in privacy.
Together with architect Yuji Yamazaki, the resort was built as
an island fully powered by the sun with solar panels in addition to using sustainable
building material, amenities, food and having environmentally conscious activities.
One of the most iconic features of the island is The Retreat
which is 21-meter-high consisting of numerous facilities for all to enjoy such
as an infinity pool, a Himalayan salt chamber, a boutique, a bar, a sauna and a
gymnasium including others. This is perhaps the highest vantage point in the
Maldives built over the sea! Standing on the upper deck in the middle of the
Indian Ocean, looking afar to the horizon, there is no other feeling comparable
to this. Think the Im flying scene in the Titanic, notes Yuji.
The resort is gifted with one of the most lively and radiant
coral reefs located 10 to 20 meters away from the villas. The villas give off an
elegant silver-grey tone on the exterior as a result of being crafted out of
cedarwood with oil built into the wood. The interiors are made so that the
natural breeze sweeps through them making the air-conditioning unessential.
Being located in a fragile environment, the island has an
intimate understanding of the importance of preserving and protecting nature
for the future, and puts a big emphasis on social responsibility toward local
communities as well.
