Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), as part of its series of familiarization trips to promote the Maldives has brought in a team of journalists from the United States.
The
team, consisting of freelance writers who have had their content appear on
a variety of leading publications such as Travel + Leisure, Jetsetter.com, Trip
Savvy, National Geographic Travel, USA Today and New York magazine, arrived in
Maldives Tuesday and would be in the country till August 18. They will be
staying in Heritance Aarah and Mercure Maldives Kooddoo Resort.
"As part of a series of FAM trips organized by
MMPRC, this is the fifth group to visit in order to further increase the
exposure of the country," a statement issued by MMPRC read.
"Through
our series of FAM trips, MMPRC hopes to reach wider audiences in these markets
to promote the Maldives."
During the visit, the American journalists will
explore the Spiritual Side of Life with a focus on wellness and rejuvenation.
They will also get a glimpse of local life during the festive period of Eid,
along with the chance to explore the natural beauty of Maldives through sunset
cruises, dolphin cruises, diving and snorkeling, and water sports.
Their
experiences will be featured on leading travel and lifestyle publication
articles in the US.
Based
on the tourist arrival figures this year, the US is amongst the top 10 source
markets for the Maldives tourism industry. It is ranked as the eights biggest
source market with a market share of 3.2 per cent.
MMPRC kicked off the
series of familiarization trips in April, starting with a team of Indian
journalists and bloggers. The official tourism promotion entity has so far
brought in teams from the UK, China and South Korea, as well as countries from Eastern Europe.
