As a part of the governments new administrations 100-day
action plan, the three day Haveli fair began on the 16th of March,
2019, at Dharubaaruge.
The fair was a means to increase memberships for many organizations
such as Bike Maldives or American Center Maldives, as well as get funding for organizations
such as Tiny Hearts,
"One of the biggest challenges in running an
NGO is the lack of funds. The government provides assistance every year but it
is not sufficient. So we are trying to provide them with the option to work
more closely with the corporate society," Home Minister Imran Abdulla said at a
press briefing at the presidents office.
The fair is held in two sessions, one in the afternoon and
one in the evening. Different activities were held, such as health screenings
and information sessions or even chances for potential investments.
"This will be a place where NGOs from all islands can meet
at one place and showcase their work… We are not charging any fees, but NGOs
from islands might have to bear some costs," said Maeedh Mohamed Zahir from NGO
Ecocare.
As per Mohamed Mazins words, the fair has assurance for
people with disabilities to move around easily with the use of ramps.
