Team Malahini Declared Champions of Ooredoo Mas Race

Team Malahini has come first in Ooredoo Mas Race 2018, winning MVR 325,000 worth of items as a prize. The team was awarded MVR 175,000 speedboat designed for fishing and a MVR 150,000 60 horsepower Evinrude engine.


After a fierce rivalry, Malahini won the championship after beating Team Milaidhoo, the runner-up and Team Enzi who won the third place at the competition


The Thafaathu Maakeyolhu prize in the male category went to Abdul Haadhee Mohamed from Team Milaidhoo who caught a 11.05-kilogram faana during semifinals and to Nashaama Mohamed from Team Malahini for a 10.5-kilogram handhi. The winners of the "Thafaathu Maakeyolhu" were each awarded MVR 5,000 as cash prize by Ooredoo.


Ooredoo reports this years competition was highly competitive and expressed the hope to see more teams at next years tournament.




Ooredoo Maldives first held the Mas Race in 2009. Night fishing has been so popular among the Maldivians, especially for the youth, Ooredoo Mas Races primary objective was to bring these energetic fishermen on to a stage to compete for an ultimate prize. Since then the competition became a major hit across the country and the support for the show started to grow immensely. The tournament was held annually within the month of Ramadan until 2016 and was not held last year either.
