Maldivian Ambassador to Thailand Mohamed Nasheed has announced that arrangements have been made to allow Maldivians to enter Thailand without visa starting sometime within the next one-month period,

According to Ambassador Nasheed, discussions held to arrange ways to travel without a visa between Maldives and Thailand have now been concluded, and necessary negotiations were also conducted during the recent trip of Ambassador of Thailand, Chulamanee Chartsuwan to Maldives.

Furthermore, Ambassador Nasheed highlighted the Maldivian Embassy in Thailand is functioning well, adding the Embassy prioritises on strengthening relations in sectors such as business, culture, tourism and education.

Thailand has in recent years become a significant trading partner of the Maldives. The Maldives established diplomatic relations with Thailand in 1979.

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom established the Maldivian embassy in Thailand on January 30 to introduce the Maldives to the outside world (in compliance with the Maldivian foreign policy) and increase trade and investment between Maldives and Thailand.
