Maamigili Port Reopens as an International Port

Maamigili Port which was developed by Villa Group has been re-opened by Maldives Ports Limited(MPL) as an international port on Wednesday.


The port was inaugurated in a ceremony by economic minister Mohamed Saeed.


Speaking at the opening ceremony, the CEO of MPL, Abdul Razzaq Haleem said that concessions would be provided to Maamigili Port, like the ports in Addu and Fuvahmulah. He said that the port would have boatyard, ice plant and a bonded warehouse as well. 


The residents of Maamigili also held a feast for the first boat that docked at the port after the inauguration, "Bonthi-2".


Maamigili Port was developed by Villa Group when they developed the Airport in Maamigili.


Maldives Ports Limited is a state corporation of the Maldives, created to be the sole port authority of the ports of the Maldives. It is 100% owned by the government of Maldives and is located in Malé, the principal port, major city and capital of the archipelago nation in the Indian Ocean.
