Minister of Economic Development Reveals Plans to Build a Cargo Village in Hulhumale

Minister of Economic Development, Mohamed Saeed has announced that President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has decided  to build a Cargo Village in Hulhumale


The plan was revealed today by Minister Saeed during his speech as the chief guest of Travel Trade Maldives Hotelier Summit which was inaugurated at Bandos Island Resort.


According to Saeed, the President has decided to build the Cargo Village in Hulhumale, which was previously planned for Hulhule. Nevertheless,  Hulhule cargo area and the Hulhumale Cargo Village will be linked via a bridge.


Saeed, during his speech at the opening of the Hotelier Summit also emphasised on how building the Cargo Village in Hulhumale will benefit the resort supply industry.


Hulhumalé is a reclaimed island located 8km off the North East Coast of Malé, the capital of Maldives and 6.5km from Velana International Airport, Hulhulé. 


The initial reclamation of Hulhumalé Phase I consisting of 188 hectares was completed in 2002. With an aim to relieve the congestion and housing crisis in Malé, the city of Hulhumalé has been planned intelligently to accommodate the growing population with a design incorporating a mix of urban and island life for its residents and visitors
