Oooredoo Maldives Launches Ooredoo Mas Race After Two Years

Oooredoo Maldives has launched the eighth edition of the much-anticipated night fishing competition, Ooredoo Mas Race' after two years. Fisheries minister Shah Ismail launched the 2018 Ooredoo Mas Race  at an event held in capital city Malé on Tuesday night


According to Ooredoo, government offices, resorts, and private-sector companies will be taking part in the three-stage competition this year. Furthermore, Ooredoo has placed a special emphasis on supporting social equality, making  it a requirement for the participating teams to have at least one female member this year in special emphasis on supporting social equality.


Ooredoo also confirmed that the necessary criteria to compete and the prizes given out the winners will be revealed very soon.




Ooredoo Maldives first held the Mas Race in 2009. Night fishing has been so popular among the Maldivians, especially for the youth, Ooredoo Mas Races main objective was to bring these energetic fishermen on to a stage to compete for an ultimate prize. Since then the competition became a major hit across the country and the support for the show started to grow immensely. The competition was held annually within the month of Ramadan until 2016 and was not held last year either.


Ooredoo Maldives formerly known as Wataniya Telecom Maldives is part of the multinational Ooredoo Group It launched its services in the Maldives on the 1st of August 2005.


The "Ooredoo" brand has been valued at USD 3.1 Billion and recognised amongst the worlds top fifty most valuable telecommunications brand by the leading intangible asset valuation consultancy, Brand Finance, in their "Telecoms 500 2017" report published on February 27, 2017.
