Vilamendhoo Island Resort and Spa has scored the Holidaycheck Award 2018 with 98 percent recommendations and a 5.7 out of 6 rating. The highly sought after tourism prize is being awarded for the thirteenth year to the most popular hotels worldwide.

Seven other resorts also won the HolidayCheck Award this year. The winners include Holiday Island Resort, Embudu Village, Fihaalhohi Island Resort, OBLU by Atmosphere at Helengeli, Robinson Club Maldives, Summer Island Maldives and Veligandu Island Resort & Spa.

In addition, Four Maldivian resorts won The HolidayCheck Gold Award 2018. The winners are Kuramathi Island Resort, Kuredu Island Resort & Spa, Meeru Island Resort & Spa and Reethi Beach Resort.

The HolidayCheck Award is an annual hotel award that selects the most popular hotels in a specific region. The HolidayCheck Award 2018 was based on more than 900,000 guest reviews. The selection is based purely on the published ratings

There are strict rules in place for presenting the Award: to even come into consideration for this sought-after accolade, a hotel must have collected at least 50 reviews from its guests during a period of twelve months. In addition, the accommodations must have been recommended by at least 90% of its former guests. 

Another tough hurdle that the hotels have to face are the HolidayCheck "Suns", which holidaymakers use when reviewing hotel details like the room, location, surroundings, service, and restaurant facilities. The scale ranges from a minimum of 1 (poor) to a maximum of 6 (very good); potential Award hotels must have achieved at least 5 "Suns". Furthermore, a hotel must not have used manipulation to go against the portals Code of Conduct. The rules in the Code define under which conditions HolidayCheck considers a review to be an active guest opinion. In extreme contraventions of the Code of Conduct, HolidayCheck reserves the right to remove and recall current accolades.
