Maldives Airports Company Limited Starts off the Work on New Passenger Terminal

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced that the company will soon embark upon the work of building the new passenger terminal at Velana International Airport.


According to a local press "Sun Media", the Associate General Manager of Corporate Communications at MACL, Hassan Areef has revealed that the terminal development is in the mobilisation phase and the site has now been cleared.


The new terminal designed to serve 5 million passengers is being developed on 78,000 square meter land. The terminal is set to contain 40 passenger counters and 38 immigration counter.


By the end of the project which is contracted Saudi company, Binladin Group , the new terminal will be equipped with 12 modern jetties, six aerobridges, a fuel hydrant system and a high explosive detection system.


Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) is a 100% government owned Limited Liability Company governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the Privatisation & Corporatization Board of Maldives. MACL is the operator of Velana International Airport (VIA) the gateway to the Maldives.


MACL has embarked on the largest developmental projects in the Maldives, including a billion-dollar investment to transform VIA into a world-class airport.


Major projects includes the development of the new runway which can accommodate A380 aircrafts, a new Cargo Terminal which can handle 120,000 tons, a new Fuel Farm which is 3 times the size of the present facility, a new Sea plane Terminal with MRO facilities, along with many other infrastructural developments.
