MMPRCs Senior Management Meets with Maldivian Ambassador to Thailand

The senior management of Maldives Marketing & PR Corporation (MMPRC) including the Acting Managing Director, Mr.Haris have held a meeting with Mr. Mohamed Nasheed, the newly appointed Ambassador for Thailand to explore new ways to increase tourists from Thailand to Maldives.


The meeting was held at the MMPRC office where opportunities to work together to increase tourist arrivals from Thailand were discussed after briefing the ambassador about the Thailand tourist market.


The Maldives ended 2017 with a record 1.39 million tourist arrivals, as the island destination have outdone the tourist record of 1.29 million set in 2016. Official figures for the month of December released by the Ministry of Tourism cite that a total of 143,041 tourists visited the Maldives during the month which marks a 19.7 percent increase over the 119,530 tourists in December 2016.


Major contributors from South East Asia posted steady growth comparing to 2016,  with arrivals from countries such as Thailand and Malaysia increasing by 58.3 percent and 18.0 percent and, respectively. Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam also posted an increase in arrivals for the year 2017.


Currently there are three direct flights from Thailands capital Bangkok to Velana International Airport.Bangkok Airways flies direct from Suvarnabhumi International Airport while AirAsia Thailand and Maldivian flies to Don Mueang Airport. 


In addition to direct flights, Sri Lankan Airlines and Singapore Airlines offer attractive fares to and from Thailand to Maldives.
