Gili Lankanfushi Hosts Endurance Event to Mark Global Recycling Day

The marine biology team at Gili Lankanfushi will be organising an endurance event named "Paddle against plastic" on Global Recycling Day as a continuous effort on our stand against plastic.


According to the resort, a team of hosts from the resort will undergo a 12 km Stand Up Paddle (SUP) during this event to raise awareness about the overuse of single use plastic in the Maldives


"This endurance event aims to inspire others to reduce their dependence on plastic by physically collecting plastic from ocean surface whilst undergoing an enduring paddle to recognise our dedication to the cause." Reads a statement  by Gili Lankanfushi


The Global Recycling Day 2 is an initiative by the Bureau of International Recycling which aims to drive awareness and action around the urgent need to recycle more effectively around the world, to assure the future of our planet.




Climate change is the major, overriding, environmental issue of the world at present and the recycling industry is at the heart of the change that is needed to combat its devastating effects. Recycling (whether industrial or at home) saves more CO2 emissions each year than are generated by the entire aviation industry, while simultaneously protecting the earths valuable natural resources.
