Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru has mantas more than covered with its Manta-on-Call service, Manta Ray Scientist for a Day experience, and close proximity to some of the most renowned manta hotspots in the world, as well as a dedicated team of researchers working tirelessly to protect and preserve them.

Spanning from June to November 2018, the countdown to manta season in the Maldives has officially begun. Landaa Giraavarus team of onsite Manta Trust experts, based at its Maldivian Manta Ray Project (MMPR) have combined over a decade of local experience, analysis of monsoon currents and more to predict the following mass aggregation dates at the known manta sights close to the Resort:

  • June 11-15
  • June 26-30
  • July 11-15
  • July 25-29
  • August 9-13
  • August 24-28
  • September 7-11
  • September 23-27
  • October 7-11
  • October 22-26
  • November 5-9
  • November 21-25

For a complete manta immersion, Four Seasons Resort Landaa Giraavaru also offers the minimum 4-night Manta Watch package from June to November: a chance to discover the intense natural beauty of the Baa Atolls UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve.

Value-added Manta Watch inclusions extend to

  • Round-trip airport transfers for two guests between the airport and Landaa Giraavaru
  • An exhilarating Manta-on-Call speedboat trip to a manta ray snorkelling hotspot such as Hanifaru Bay or Bathaala
  • A thrilling dolphin cruise into the waters of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve
  • The chance to transplant a personalised coral frame to help turn a previously empty reef flat into a thriving coral ecosystem
  • Daily breakfast in Café Landaa for two guests.

Manta Watch is seasonal and manta ray sightings are subject to weather conditions and the temperament of these gentle oceanic giants.

Landaas Manta-on-Call service sees guests given a "manta phone" that rings wherever they are at the Resort when mantas are sighted nearby.  An exhilarating speedboat transfer ensues for a thrilling snorkelling experience.

"Our Manta-on-Call service is one of our most popular guest experiences," comments Tam Sawers, Project Leader.

"With so much manta history and conservation intrinsically linked to the Resort, its a real highlight and honour to offer the opportunity to swim, snorkel and learn more about these special underwater residents."

Another favourite is Manta Ray Scientist for a Day: an adventure-meets-research immersion into the world of manta conservation, cruising the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere, free diving, taking ID photos, recording environmental data and more.

Guests can also book private manta cruises and may even be lucky enough to swim with a manta in the Resorts lagoon, where they are also occasionally spotted.

Combining innovation, wellness and conservation, Landaa Giraavaru is a 44 acre, 103 villa wonderland in the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve a 30-minute seaplane flight from Malé.

Its sister property, Kuda Huraa, lies to the south: an enchanting garden island complete with Island Spa sea sanctuary and Tropicsurf coaches and guides and waves that host the annual Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy. The luxury catamaran, Four Seasons Explorer, connects the two resorts via 3, 4 and 7-night cruises, plus private leisure, surf and manta ray charters.
