Vakkaru Maldives which opened its doors to guests officially on December 2017, is an island resort amidst the UNESCO BIOSPHERE RESERVE of Baa Atoll with no other island in sight, leaving guests to feel like they have totally escaped it all.

The island upon which the resort is built is 85%  composed entirely of sediment produced on the surrounding coral reefs by parrotfish grinding up coral during feeding and after digesting the edible content, excreting the rest as sand, creating the powder soft, brilliant white sands that encircle the island.

From that beginning, the exceptional beauty and awe-inspiring location were what drew the owners of this untouched jewel, to select Vakkaru in their quest to fashion an idyllic, sustainable environment of pared-back luxury under the endless emeralds and azures of The Maldives.

"It is an extraordinarily stunning island with a fantastic house reef and more than 1,400 existing mature coconut trees that have been integrated into the resort plan. I love that we were able to keep all the trees given that "Vakkaru" means coconut palm wood in Dhivehi" says Narelle McDougall, Director of Business Development, herself no stranger to the allure of the Maldives having lived and worked there for the last 5 and a half years.

With the intention of preserving the integrity of local architecture with a contemporary style, Vakkaru Maldives is completely designed to draw on the rich traditions of the locale, with elements focused on Maldivian style fused with the finest natural materials.

As a result the resort boasts of amazing spaces for guests to connect with each other and the environment around them.

"fashionable design elements, impressive room size, exquisite high thread count pure cotton bed linens, irresistible bathroom amenities, intelligent guest room connectivity and an array of recreational activities await travellers seeking an earthy yet elegant, intimate getaway in arguably one of the most desirable island destinations on the planet." Says McDougall.

While the natural beauty of the island is kept, this independently operated resort is also remarkably decadent.

An indulgent selection of dining choices from across the world are served in four restaurants and two bars, offering the perfect environment for everyone to relax and dine in style. Guests will also have the chance to enjoy home grown ingredients, hand-picked from the islands organic garden as they sample flavours from Europe to Asia.

Vakkaru Maldives is a scenic twenty-five minutes ride away from Male International Airport by seaplane.
