The National Airline of Maldives welcomed its 12th Seaplane this evening at Velana International Airport.

The new DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft which landed at the Maldives main Velana International Airport this month will be fitted with floats before it enters into service. Maldivian received a delivery of a Twin Otter aircraft earlier this month as well.

Seaplane is the preferred mode of transport between the main Velana International Airport and dozens of resorts, especially those located in the outer atolls.

Maldivian has recently announced a major expansion of its seaplane operations, with plans to add four Twin Otter aircraft by the first quarter of 2018.

Maldivian began seaplane operations in 2014 and has since expanded its seaplane fleet. The airline currently flies to more than six resorts in the Maldives.

The national airline of the country is the leading domestic carrier in the Maldives. Maldivian currently operates to India, Bangladesh, Thailand and China from its main hub at Velena International Airport. Maldivian is also the only operator in the country who offer both seaplane and wheel base flights in Maldives.

The nation's carrier today operates daily frequent flights to 11 airports within the country and offers competitive air transfers to all resorts in the Maldives.
