Maldives, an island nation consisting of over thousand islands scattered across the equator in the middle of the world not only boasts an enchanting beauty but a rich history as well.

Gan International Airport is located on the island of Gan in Addu Atoll (previously known as Seenu Atoll) in the Maldives and was once an important base of the Royal Air Force of the Great Britain and played a big role during the 2nd world War.

It was originally built by the British as a staging post for its RAF during 1950s and was handed over to the Maldivian Government in 1976 with almost an equivalent of an ICAO code 4D air strip comprising of then state of the art equipment and facilities.

Recently the airport was upgraded to international standards and has made three top tier resorts, Equator Village, Shangri-las Villinigili Resort & Spa and Canaries Resort Maldives easily accessible from the airport.

Addu Link Road

Gan Island is now connected with the main 4 inhabited islands through a causeway known as the Addu Link Road which connects Feydhoo, Marddhoofeydhoo, Maradhoo and Hithadhoo and has now become the main gateway to the unique destination

Furthermore The 16-kilometre Addu Link Road causeway is the second longest paved causeway in the Maldives.

Gan remains as the southern most island having a mark as the last point of land belonging to the Maldives.
